In a family garage in Pasadena, two USC graduates, Richard Knerr and Arthur “Spud” Melin have started their own small company, called “WHAM-O Mfg. Co.”  

1957

The Frisbee® was born.

 On this day in 1957, machines at the Wham-O roll out the first batch of their aerodynamic plastic discs–now known to millions of fans all over the world as Frisbees.

1958

 Wham-O introduces its infamous hip-swiveling toy  Hula Hoop!

1961

Easy Fun! Just Run and Slide a Mile!

 Wham-O launched Slip ‘N Slide – water slide that changed our summer fun forever!

1965

Superball made its first Big Bounce into the world!

1968

FirstFrisbee Golf Tournament took place in California

1971

On July 7, 1971, the bodyboard was born. Tom Morey trademarked the name and placed his first ad in the surf magazine. 

1983

Wham-Ostarts new lifestyle fad called Hacky Sack

1994

Mattel buys Wham-O from Kransco.

1999

Hula Hoop was inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame

2015

StallionSport Ltd and InterSport Corp have acquired the global rights to Wham-O
